Employee wellbeing
Cycling supports physical and mental health. A workplace bike scheme encourages active commuting and healthier daily routines, which can positively influence energy, engagement and long-term wellbeing across your workforce.
By enabling access through salary sacrifice NZ, employers remove a financial barrier that often prevents employees from getting started.
Simple admin and support
Northride provides structured onboarding, communication templates and ongoing guidance so the scheme integrates into existing payroll processes smoothly.
The goal is clarity. Employers understand what is required, what it costs and how it works from day one.
Billing and what’s included
What employer pays
The bike benefit scheme is designed to be cost-neutral for employers. There is no large upfront capital requirement for bikes. The structure is built around salary sacrifice NZ, ensuring transparency and cost clarity.
Northride provides clear documentation outlining responsibilities and flow of funds.
What the employee pays
Employees pay for their chosen bike over time through salary sacrifice. Because payments are structured in a tax-efficient way, the total cost can be lower than traditional purchase methods or standard bike finance.
The payment schedule and terms are transparent from the outset.
Cancellation and terms
Terms are clearly communicated before participation begins. In the event of employment changes or early termination, there are structured processes in place to ensure clarity for both employer and employee.
Northride provides guidance to help manage these scenarios confidently.
Partner bike shops and bike choice
PARTNER NETWORK
Northride works with a growing network of approved partner bike shops across New Zealand. This ensures employees have access to trusted retailers who understand how the scheme works.
The partner network helps maintain consistency, quality and clarity.
Bike Types & E-Bikes
Employees can choose from a wide range of bikes suited to commuting and lifestyle use, including standard city, commuter, mountain, gravel, cargo and e-bikes. Providing choice increases participation and ensures the scheme meets diverse commuting needs across your workforce. Below are few examples of possible rides.
E-commuter bike
Different kinds of commuter bikes are often best for short flat city commute.
E-Cargo bike
Cargo bikes are best for carrying heavy loads or kids.
E-mountain bike
This bike type is great for off-road, trail sections and also longer mixed terrain commute
Salary sacrifice NZ
Salary sacrifice NZ is the mechanism that makes the bike benefit scheme possible.
It allows employees to allocate a portion of their salary toward a bike before tax is applied, which can reduce the overall cost of participation.
Northride provides guidance to ensure salary sacrifice is implemented in line with current payroll practices and regulatory requirements.
FBT and exemptions
Fringe Benefit Tax considerations are important when introducing any employee benefits programme.
The bike benefit scheme structure is designed with awareness of FBT rules and potential exemptions. Northride provides clear guidance so employers understand where obligations apply and where exemptions may be available.
